Welcome and Hello

Let's start with an introduction from myself.

Firstly, thank you for coming here and reading blog.

I am 48 years old, married and have a daughter aged 8. Last year, after thinking and pondering for several years, I decided to change my career and see if I could become a primary school teacher.

Why, you ask? Well, I knew that I needed a job change. I wasn't enjoying what I was doing anymore and if someone said this to me, I would advise them to make a change, so why wasn't I listening to my own advice. I suppose fear and belief, also deciding if it was a new company I needed to work for or a change of career. There is the drop in salary too, but I knew any career change would involve this. Finally, after a lot of thought, I decided I need a change, accountancy wasn't doing it for me any more!  Despite the  difficulties of lockdown homeschooling (with having to also work), I enjoyed the learning that my daughter was doing, both set by school and other things done together. I liked seeing her learn something new, practice it, have an aha moment and feel proud of herself. Plus, I have also felt very lucky with my lot - my life growing up and now as an adult, so I wanted to give back. In my 20s I decided that someday I would adopt a child, but my husband doesn't want to, so I can channel this altruism through teaching and doing something to directly affect a child's life and make a difference. I can remember favourite teachers who made me feel cared for, important and inspired me, plus ones that I would never want to be like.

Before anyone says, but don't you know what teaching is really like, I know. My sister and good friend are both primary school teachers and do not paint it all with rose tinted glasses. They do tell me both sides, so I know what I am getting in to, but you have to begin every new journey hopefully, so that is what I am doing.

Aside from my big career change, that will consume my life for a  while, I like spending time with my friends and family, sewing - mainly clothes, cooking, baking bread and cakes, watching films, going to the theatre - especially musicals, and eating out in restaurants. I appreciate that some of this can not be done. at the moment but I am sure 'normal' will resume sometime soon.

I hope through this blog, you can follow me on my career change journey and I can share some useful things, that may make you  think or be helpful.
